Samsung starts rolling out One UI 4.1 to the Galaxy S21 series

Samsung debuted the latest version of its Android skin, One UI 4.1, with the Galaxy S22 series earlier this year. The update recently started making its way to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3, bringing a host of new software features to the foldables. Now, Samsung has started rolling it out to the Galaxy S21 series in some regions.

According to recent reports on our forums and Reddit, One UI 4.1 has started rolling out to the Galaxy S21 series in Canada. At the moment, the update is limited to the Canadian Snapdragon variants (SM-G99xW) of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, but it should make its way to more variants and regions over the next few days.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, One UI 4.1 for the Galaxy S21 series introduces several new features like Google Duo live integration, the Expert RAW app, Object Eraser, Quick Share, Grammarly integration in the Samsung keyboard, and more. The update also brings the Android security patches for March 2022 to the devices. If you haven’t received an OTA notification on your device yet, you can head over to the Software Update section in the device settings to manually check for the update. Alternatively, you can wait a few days for the update to automatically show up on your device.

Samsung plans to release One UI 4.1 to a host of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets over the next few months. These include the Galaxy S20 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the original Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7 FE, Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Note 10 series, and the Galaxy S10 series. Samsung is yet to provide a definite release timeline for these devices, though.

Google Home’s redesigned home tab makes it a lot easier to control your smart devices

If you own a Nest speaker or Google Assistant-enabled device, you’re probably familiar with the Google Home app. The companion app is your central hub to control and manage your smart home devices. And it’s now getting a redesign that makes it even easier to control devices right from the main tab.

The Google Home app is picking up an update to version 2.49, and as spotted by 9to5Google, it introduces an updated home view that lets you adjust devices in fewer steps. The update replaces the large device icons with rectangular tiles with rounded corners. The tiles are interactive, allowing you to adjust things like volume and brightness by sliding left or right. And just as before, you can still tap on the buttons to turn a device on or off. Meanwhile, long-pressing a button brings up full-page controls.

Quickly find what you’re looking for, dim your compatible lights, and change the music volume in a snap. Tap to turn a device on or off, slide left or right to make adjustments, and long press for more controls.

The new device grid redesign is rolling out on iOS with Google Home version 2.49. However, the new UI isn’t available on Android with the latest update. 9to5Google notes that they managed to enable the redesign in Google Home 2.49.1.8, so it shouldn’t be too long before it makes its way to everyone. We’ll keep an eye out and let you know once it rolls out widely on Android.

The Google Home has received several nifty features and improvements over the past months. Late last year, the app added a built-in virtual remote to let you control your Android TV and Google TV units. It now also lets you test the connection speed between your smart home devices and Nest Wi-Fi router.

Latest Samsung Internet beta brings new privacy features, HTTPS by default, and more

It’s been a while since the Samsung Internet browser received a significant update. In November, the app added a Safari-style bottom address bar, tab groups, HTTP upgrades for webpages, and more. Now Samsung has released a new beta update (v17.0) that adds a couple of new features and improvements such as new privacy enhancements to Smart Anti Tracking, HTTPS by default, privacy board, and more.

Samsung Internet 17.0 beta brings two new enhancements to Smart Anti Tracking, a privacy feature that automatically removes tracking cookies. The first is “script-writable storage Tracking Protection” which will remove all client-side cookies after seven days to minimize user tracking/profiling. The second change is that the Smart Anti-Tracking feature will be turned on by default in certain regions such as the US, Korea, and Europe. On new installations, the feature would be set to “Always.”

Next up, Samsung Internet 17.0 beta will now load the HTTPS version of websites by default. This was introduced as an optional feature in v16.0.2, and it’s now turned on by default. The browser would fall back to the HTTP version only if it didn’t find the HTTPS version.

Samsung Internet 17.0 beta also makes it easier to access privacy settings by adding a new privacy board panel to the Quick Access Page. The feature is turned on by default and provides privacy reports that can be easily turned on/off if you don’t like them.

The latest update also adds a LiveText feature that lets you copy, translate, or perform a web search on text within an image. It uses Optical character recognition (OCR) to detect and extract the text from images.

Elsewhere, the Samsung Internet 17.0 now lets you create a new tab group via drag and drop, enhances search experience across Bookmarks, History, and Saved pages, adds support for Storage Access API, and enhances the position of video subtitles.

Discord starts rolling out an easy-to-use Account Switcher for users with multiple accounts

In October last year, we spotted an upcoming feature in a teardown of the Discord app for Android. The feature was designed to help users add multiple accounts to the Discord app and switch between them seamlessly. It has now started rolling out to users, and here’s how it works.

Previously, the Discord app didn’t let users log in with multiple accounts. If you wanted to add another account to the app, you would first have to log out of the current account. This made switching between accounts on the app a nuisance. With its new Account Switcher, the Discord app now lets you add multiple accounts and switch between them with just a few taps. The feature has already started rolling out to some users but, as pointed out in a new FAQ page, it’s currently only available to a few users. If you’re among the lucky few, you should see a new Account Switching pop-up (see attached screenshot) in the bottom right corner when you open the app.

To access the feature, simply tap on your Avatar image in the bottom left corner and then select the new “Switch Account” option. Tap on “Manage Accounts” in the overflow menu and then add more accounts. You can log into five accounts using the Account Switcher. Once that’s done, you should see all your accounts when you tap on the “Switch Account” option. Tapping on any of the accounts will instantly switch to that account.

Note that the Account Switcher doesn’t show other users which accounts you’re switching to. Some preferences may not be saved when you switch between accounts, including a few appearance settings.

At the moment, it isn’t clear if the feature is rolling out to the Discord app on all platforms or not. We can confirm that it is available on the Discord app for Windows, but it isn’t available on any of our Android or iOS devices right now.

Here are all the new wallapers from the iPhone SE 3 (2022)

At its Spring event last week, Apple finally lifted the covers off the iPhone SE 3 (2022), a direct successor to the last-gen iPhone SE. While the new model looks pretty identical to the previous iPhone SE models, it does come with some exciting new wallpapers.

We have managed to extract the new static and live wallpapers from the iPhone SE 3 firmware. You can preview all of them in the gallery listed below. But note that the wallpapers listed below are in a compressed format. We recommend downloading the original resolution files from the link below.

There are a total of nine wallpapers here. Six are static, while three are live wallpapers.

Download the iPhone SE 3 (2022) wallpapers

The download link below contains all nine wallpapers in their original resolution. The static wallpapers are in HEIC format and have a resolution of 1590 x 1590, while live wallpapers are in M4V format and have a resolution of 990 x 1760. If your device doesn’t support HEIC format, you can convert the static wallpaper files to JPG or PNG using an image converter tool like PhotoStack. And as for M4V live wallpapers, you can check out our guide on how to set videos as live wallpapers on Android.

The iPhone SE 3 (2022) brings some notable improvements over its predecessor, including a brand new A15 Bionic chipset, 5G support, improved battery life, and new camera features like HDR 4 and Deep Fusion. The new model is currently available for pre-order and will go on sale on March 18 for $429 in the US.
