Xiaomi launches two new phones in the Redmi Note 11 lineup in India

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11 lineup can be considered its flagship lineup for the globe, with enough Redmi Notes sold every year to eclipse all their other lineups and even other OEMs. Xiaomi also has been adding a whole bunch of models to the lineup, serving a larger range of needs and budgets than what the original Redmi Note lineup started off to serve. The company is now adding two devices to its lineup in India with the launch of the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G and Redmi Note 11 Pro (4G).

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G and the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G are similar devices that largely share the same build. The only differences between the phones arise because of 5G and its ancillary requirements. The 4G device uses a MediaTek Helio G96 SoC, while the Pro Plus 5G uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC with the X51 5G modem. The 4G device gets a lower storage variant to give it a lower starting price, while the Pro Plus 5G gets 256GB of storage as an option. The Pro Plus loses out on the 2MP depth camera to better accommodate 5G related hardware, but you aren’t losing out on too much.

Common highlights of the device include a nice 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 67W of fast wired charging for their 5,000mAh battery along with an included 67W charger in the box, and a 108MP primary rear camera.

If the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G [India] looks familiar to you, that’s because it is. It’s practically the same underlying phone that has been released/will be released with these different names in the relevant regions:

  • Codename “peux”:
    • Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G [India]
    • POCO X4 Pro 5G [India]
  • Codename “veux”:
    • Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G [Global]
    • POCO X4 Pro 5G [Global]
    • Redmi Note 11E Pro [China]

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G is a little easier to follow. The device has the codename “vida” for India, while it is “viva” for Global region. The marketing name has stayed the same so far.

Pricing and Availability

Redmi is pricing the phones as below in India:

  • Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G:
    • 6GB + 64GB: ₹17,999
    • 8GB + 128GB: ₹19,999
    • Goes on sale in India from 23 March 2022
  • Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G:

Samsung’s new Galaxy F23 offers solid hardware at an affordable price tag

Samsung has just launched a brand new affordable smartphone in India. The new Galaxy F23 is a direct successor to the Galaxy F22 from last year and represents Samsung’s latest attempt at cracking the highly competitive budget smartphone segment in the region. The Galaxy F23 packs some serious hardware, including a 120Hz high refresh rate display, a faster chipset, updated cameras, and a big battery.

The Galaxy F23 sports an updated design. It swaps the square camera module of the last model for a rectangular one and the textured back for a smooth one, lending the phone a more premium look. The front is covered by a 6.6-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, but Samsung doesn’t specify anywhere on its website whether it’s an AMOLED panel or an LCD — we’re inclined to believe it’s an LCD panel.

Under the hood, the Galaxy F23 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, a step up from the MediaTek Helio G80 SoC on the Galaxy F22. The chipset is paired with 4GB/6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB storage with microSD expansion support. The phone also has a heat dissipation system. Samsung calls it “Power Cool” technology, and it’s supposed to drive excessive heat away from the processor area to keep things running relatively cool during long gaming sessions and other intensive workloads.

The primary camera has been upgraded from a 48MP sensor to a new 50MP sensor. However, the 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro sensors are unchanged from the last model.

While last year’s model packed a massive 6,000mAh battery, the Galaxy F23 comes with a smaller 5,000mAh cell. The battery charges via a 25W fast charger.

Other notable highlights of the Galaxy F23 include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, face unlock, Samsung Pay support, and 5G support. On the software front, the phone runs Android 12 out of the box with One UI 4.1 on top. In addition, Samsung promises two years of OS updates and four years of security updates for the device.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy F23 comes in two colors — Aqua Blue and Forest Green — and will go on sale starting March 16 on Flipkart, Samsung’s website, and select retail stores. Pricing starts at ₹17,499 for the base 4GB/128GB model and goes up to ₹18,499 for the 6GB/128GB model. Samsung’s early bird offers bring the prices down to ₹14,999 and ₹15,999, respectively.

Last minute leak suggests Apple could launch a Mac Studio, a Studio Display, and more, today

Apple’s Peek Performance event is scheduled for later today, and the rumor mills are in overdrive on what we can expect to see at this event. We’re expecting/hoping to see a 5G-enabled iPhone SE 3, the new iPad Air 5, and a Mac Mini with updated internals. But as we witnessed in the last event where the redesigned Apple Watch 7 did not arrive, Apple likes to keep things interesting and surprise people. New leaks suggest that we might see some more hardware, namely in the form of a bigger Mac Mini aka Mac Studio, a new cheaper display, and a new color variant for the iPhone 13 series.

Mac Studio

According to YouTuber Luke Miani, Apple is indeed working on and planning to release the Mac Studio at today’s event. This product occupies the same footprint as the Mac Mini, but is taller, to accommodate more powerful internals and cooling solution. Mark Gurman corroborates the leak, mentioning that the “Mac Studio (smaller Mac Pro/more powerful Mac mini) plus the new monitor running iOS are “ready to go”“.

New Apple Studio Display

Luke also mentions that Apple will also be launching a cheaper version of the Pro Display XDR, which might come in at 27-inches in size and skip out on the MiniLED tech. It will also skip out on the pattern on the back of the display, and it also skips out on the Pro Stand — but hopefully, it will not cost $5,000+. As to what it will be called, we do not know. But it might make sense to pick up the Studio branding as it launches alongside the Mac Studio, which in turn is expected as a cheaper version of the Mac Pro.

Green iPhone 13

The iPhone SE 3 isn’t the only iPhone that will be talked about today. Luke believes that Apple will also reveal a new green color for the iPhone 13 series.

Purple iPad Air 5

Apple could also be releasing the iPad Air 5 in the purple color that it launched for the iPhone 12 last year.

The event is in a few hours, so the curtains will finally be lifted. What are you expecting to see? Let us know in the comments below!
