Check out our Favorite Cases for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series

The Galaxy S22 series of smartphones is here and it is Samsung’s flagship lineup for 2022. The standard Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus are catered towards an audience that wants a phone under the price of $1,000 whereas the big boy Galaxy S22 Ultra is for those who want a no-limits flagship. Regardless of which phone you get, it’s important to protect your investment from getting scratched or dented. The best way to do that is by using a case. Here are some of our favorite cases for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of smartphones!

Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro

Galaxy S22 Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro

The Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro has been one of our recommendations for the longest time thanks to its robust design and rugged frame. If you’re someone who drops your phone often and wants to make sure that it stays protected at all times, the Unicorn Beetle Pro is the perfect option. It’s got a silicone layer that wraps around the phone plus a hard plastic layer that comes in contact with any surface upon impact.

If that doesn’t sound like ample protection already, you even get a built-in screen protector so there’s no need to purchase one separately. Not only is the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro protective, but it’s also got some nice utilitarian features up its sleeve. For starters, there’s a kickstand on the rear that can help you rest the phone on any surface you like. This comes in handy when viewing content on the phone for long hours. Apart from this, you also get a belt holster with the case so if you like carrying your phone around on your belt, you know which case to get!

The Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro is for those who want the best protection with extra utility like a kickstand.

Spigen Thin Fit

Spigen Thin Fit S22

While some people may want complete protection for their smartphones, not everyone wants to use a case that’s drop-resistant. Such cases are generally thick and change the way the phone looks and feels in the hand. However, a case is still necessary to provide some type of protection at least against scratches and dings. The solution to this problem is to use a thin case. A thin case adds a basic layer of protection without adding too much bulk or changing the dimensions of your phone considerably.

One of the best thin cases out there is the Spigen Thin Fit. While the Thin Fit used to be a hard plastic case some time back, Spigen revised the design last year and it’s now more flexible as well as more protective. It’s lightweight and doesn’t add any noticeable weight to the phone and this is especially appreciable on a large and heavy device like the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It also looks stealthy and is the perfect case for someone who wants something minimal.

The Spigen Thin Fit is for those who want a minimalistic case that doesn't add too much bulk to the device.

i-Blason Ares

iblason Ares for s22

The Galaxy S22 series of phones come in a variety of attractive colors. When you’ve picked a color of your choice, you would surely want to show it off to everyone when using the phone. That’s where a clear case comes in handy. The i-Blason Ares isn’t your average clear case though. It has a transparent back that shows off the color of the smartphone but also offers a ton of protection thanks to rugged bumpers running all around the edge of the case.

This is easily one of the most protective cases that you can buy that’s also clear. It’s also available in a variety of colors along the edges so you can either choose to match it with the color of your phone or choose a contrasting finish that can give your phone a completely new look altogether.

    i-Blason Ares
If you're looking for a clear case that doesn't compromise in the protection department, this case is for you.

Ringke Fusion X

Ringke Fusion X S22 Ultra

This case is for those who are a fan of the military camo look. The Fusion X case from Ringke has a translucent back with a camo pattern that looks great when you put it on a phone. There’s also a nice texture on the back that improves the grip of the phone when you’re holding it. Apart from looking tough, the Ringke Fusion X also has tough protection with large corner bumps that protect the device in case of a fall.

The bumper runs all along the edges of the device and is made of TPU which is shock-absorbent. The backplate is polycarbonate which means it’s sturdy and offers good protection for the back as well. The elements from the side bumper extend onto the back in some parts to give the case a more aggressive look. If you want a rugged case that has a nice design and doesn’t add too much bulk, you can consider this case from Ringke.

    Ringke Fusion X
The Ringke Fusion X case is for those who want a protective case that doesn't add too much bulk and also has a nice design or pattern at the back. It looks pretty cool!

Clayco Xenon

clayco xenon galaxy s22

A lot of people want to protect their phone from drops but do not want to add too much bulk or compromise on the design. This is where the Clayco Xenon comes into the picture. The Xeon series of cases from Clayco is protective but doesn’t add a lot of bulk to your smartphone. If you got the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it’s already quite a bulky device so if you put on a thick case, it may get slightly uncomfortable to hold and use for long hours.

The Clayco Xenon case solves that by using softer materials that don’t necessarily add too much thickness. The design of the case is also nice and sober without too many aggressive elements. You get a matte finish on the back that makes it easier to grip the phone accompanied by carbon fiber accents on the top and the bottom to give the case a slightly tough look. It even comes with a built-in screen protector and is available in a few color options depending on the device.

    Clayco Xenon
Want a good amount of protection but don't want to add too much bulk? Consider this case from Clayco!

Does the Samsung Galaxy S22 series support wireless charging?

Wireless charging is a feature that many consumers look for in their next phones. Personally speaking, charging a phone isn’t the most tedious task out there, but plugging in and removing a cable takes a couple of extra seconds. Using a wireless charger is just so much more convenient, and many high-end phones support the feature. And if you’re wondering, yes, that includes the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

All three phones in the Galaxy S22 series support wireless charging, including reverse wireless charging (Wireless PowerShare, as Samsung calls it). That shouldn’t be a surprise considering Samsung’s flagship phones have supported wireless charging for a while. There’s no wireless charger in the box, though. You can see what’s included in the box in our unboxing articles below:

How does wireless charging work on the Galaxy S22 series?

Just like most other phones right now, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series charges wirelessly with the Qi standard. This is an interface that transmits power over a short-range wireless connection, allowing you to charge your phone without plugging in a cable. Essentially, all you need to do is place your phone down on a wireless charger (it can be a mat, stand, or just about anything that can fit a charging coil inside) and it’ll begin charging if it’s properly aligned. Qi is pretty much the only wireless charging standard that matters right now, so finding a compatible charger should be easy.

Qi wireless charger

Multiple devices charging on a wireless charger

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series supports wireless charging speeds up to 15W, which isn’t the fastest out there, but it’s still decently quick. That’s one of the downsides of wireless charging – it tends to be slower than wired alternatives. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus support up to 25W wired charging, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra supports up to 45W charging, for example. That limitation of wireless charging exists because it’s hard to transmit power wirelessly without generating a lot of heat that could potentially cause damage.

But that’s not all, because the Galaxy S22 phones also support Wireless PowerShare, or reverse wireless charging. Essentially, you can use your phone as a charger for another device. The Galaxy S22 series can provide up to 4.5W of power to another device. While you can try to power up another phone this way, it’s really meant for charging accessories that also support wireless charging, like Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro. Because those devices have small batteries, it’s easy to charge them this way.

Should you get a wireless charger?

Wireless charging isn’t a necessity as much as it is a convenience feature. Like we’ve said, it allows you to just put your phone down on a charger and it will charge, no fiddling with cables required. You can have your phone charging at your desk while you work, or even get a charging stand that holds the phone up so you can easily glance at the screen if you need to. It’s more suited for drop-and-forget situations, so the next time you pick your phone up, you’re in a better position for use in the day.

Samsung 15W Wireless charger stand

Another big benefit is that you can use the USB Type-C port for something else while the phone charges. The Samsung Galaxy S22 (like most flagship phones) doesn’t have a headphone jack, so if you want to use wired headphones, you’re going to need that port. With a wireless charger, you can keep the port free for situations like this. You would need to figure out the ideal charger for such a situation though, as many stands would block the port in portrait orientation, while some others may not have correct coil positioning for landscape charging.

Wireless charging does have its downsides, though, since you can’t really use your phone while it’s charging this way. Every time you pick up the phone, it’ll stop charging until you put it back on the charger, and that can be more of an inconvenience than wired charging for some people. Plus, as we’ve mentioned, wireless charging just isn’t as fast as wired charging most of the time, and it’s more expensive, too.

Regardless, if you think the pros outweigh the cons, you can check out the best wireless chargers you can get for Galaxy phones if you’re interested. Otherwise, we also have a list of the best wired chargers for you.

Here are all the Galaxy S22 official cases from Samsung

The Galaxy S22 series is finally here, following months of rumors, leaks, speculation, and more leaks. Just like last year, there are three models to choose from: the smallest Galaxy S22, the larger Galaxy S22 Plus, and the stylus-equipped Galaxy S22 Ultra. We have hands-on with the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, so check that out to know our thoughts on the new flagships.

If you’ve already purchased the base model phone, perhaps from our roundup of the best Galaxy S22 deals, you might also be interested in keeping your new expensive phone from shattering. It’s a good idea to pick up some of the best Galaxy S22 screen protectors, but in this roundup, we’ll cover all of the Galaxy S22 cases that Samsung itself is selling.

Samsung always releases a few cases alongside all of its flagship phones, and the Galaxy S22 isn’t any different. Even though there will likely be hundreds (if not thousands) of alternatives from other companies (which we’re covering in our best Galaxy S22 cases list), it’s a good idea to check out what Samsung itself offers. You can find every available option below.

Silicone Cover with Strap (Two Colors)

This case has a matte finish with a navy color, and a bright orange strap that you can slide your fingers under for improved grip. It's available in White and Navy colors.
    Galaxy S22 Clear Standing Cover

This is pretty much your average clear silicone case, but with the added bonus of an adjustable kickstand for easy hands-free viewing.
    Galaxy S22 Frame Cover (Navy)

This two-piece case has a navy-colored protective frame on the sides, and two backplates (one clear, one mirrored) you can swap between. Samsung says the clear back is great for stickers, but sadly neglected to include any stickers.
    LED View Cover (Black)

This is a wrap-around cover for the Galaxy S22, with a small LED clock at the top-right and a slot for holding one card.
    Silicone Cover (Five Colors)

This soft-touch silicone case is available in five colors: black, Forest Green, Glow Red, Arctic Blue, and Butter Yellow. The red color is probably my favorite.
    Clear Cover

This is your basic clear plastic phone case, nothing too crazy. It doesn't add much bulk, and shows off your Galaxy S22's actual colors.
    Protective Standing Cover (Three Colors)

This case has a more durable design, with soft-touch sides and an adjustable kickstand. It's available in Navy, White, and Fresh Lavender.
    Leather Cover (Three Colors)

This case is constructed from genuine leather. It's available in three colors: black, Light Gray (which is really close to white), and Forest Green.
    S-View Flip Cover (Three Colors)

This cover case has a small window in the front for an always-on clock, call notifications, or other functions.

Most of these cases are simple updates to the designs Samsung offered for the Galaxy S21 series last year, such as the Silicone Cover, LED View Cover, and so on. The S-View Flip Cover now has a small square-shaped cutout at the top right of the front display, while last year’s Galaxy S21 S-View Flip Cover had a much longer cutout that stretched to the bottom of the display. The Silicone Cover is also available in different colors compared to the same case for the Galaxy S21.

The only entirely-new addition is the Silicone Cover with Strap, available in either Navy (with an orange strap) or White (with a green strap). That design was previously only available in cases for the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which helped grip the smaller phone, but now it’s available for the Galaxy S22 series too.

    Samsung Galaxy S22
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is the entry flagship for 2022, bringing over top of the line performance and camera capabilities in a form that fits many pockets and budgets.

These are the Best Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Cases in 2022

Samsung has launched its latest flagship smartphone lineup for 2022 — the Galaxy S22 series. While the standard Galaxy S22 is more affordable while still retaining flagship hardware, the Galaxy S22 Ultra goes all-in and provides probably the best smartphone experience you can get on a flagship Android device. If you’re planning to buy any of the three phones in the series for yourself, make sure to check out the best Galaxy S22 deals to get the best offers and discounts and save some extra money. It’s also wise to protect your expensive investment from external damage which is why we’ve shortlisted some of the best Galaxy S22 Ultra cases in this article.

A case not only protects your phone from external damage like scratches and dents but also changes the look and feel of your smartphone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is quite slippery so a case can help you grip the phone better. When paired with a screen protector, a case can also go a long way in protecting your display from getting shattered if and when you drop your phone, thus saving you a lot of money that you would otherwise have to spend on repairs. Here are some of the best case options that you can take a look at across various categories and price points. You can pick the best case for yourself depending on your style or materials of choice.

Navigate this article:

Wallpaper-based dynamic theming could make its way to more Android 12 devices soon

Google may soon require all Android OEMs that ship devices with Google Mobile Services to offer users a Material You-style dynamic theming system. The company is reportedly looking to make this mandatory for Android phones and tablets that ship with Android 12 or are getting an Android 12 update.

According to Android Police, a reliable source with access to internal Google documentation has revealed that the company will require all new Android 12-based software builds submitted for Google Mobile Services (GMS) approval to feature a dynamic theming engine. This change will reportedly go into effect on March 14. The source further reveals that Google has laid down some guidelines for the dynamic theming engine to help OEMs implement a consistent solution.

As per these guidelines, the dynamic theming engine should be able to use a single source color to generate five tonal palettes (each comprising of 13 colors) that can adapt on the fly, three access palettes, and two neutral, much like the Material You dynamic theming system on Pixel devices. The consistency will help third-party developers who wish to add dynamic theming support to their apps.

Since Google’s Monet theming engine will go open source with Android 12L, OEMs will likely implement it on their custom Android skins instead of developing their own theming engine. As Mishaal Rahman points out, several OEMs, including Xiaomi and Motorola, have already started implementing Monet in their Android 12-based updates and we expect the others to follow soon. It’s worth noting that while Samsung’s One UI 4 update also features a dynamic theming system, Android Police notes that it is not powered by Monet.

Irrespective of whether OEMs choose to implement Monet or not, you should expect more devices to offer dynamic theming support soon. This might further give third-party developers enough incentive to bring dynamic theming support to their apps. For more details on Google’s Monet theming engine and how it works, check out our detailed explainer.
