OxygenOS 12 for the OnePlus 9 series is littered with bugs

OnPlus officially released the stable OxygenOS 12 update based on Android 12 for the OnePlus 9 series recently. The software release packs several new features including reworked icons, adjustable dark mode, Work Life Balance 2.0, revamped Shelf, and more. However, it seems the update is half-baked and littered with bugs and inconsistencies, with some users even questioning whether it’s really a stable update.

OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro users are reporting a wide range of issues after installing the OxygenOS 12 update, such as trouble making and receiving calls, poor animations, broken Autofill feature, slower Wi-Fi speed, and so on.

What’s even worse is that the update is also missing some customization features that have been an integral part of the OxygenOS experience. For example, you can no longer change icons individually, can’t customize the status bar, can’t disable the Google Feed, can’t turn off the battery icon, and so on. The call recording app and the Advanced Reboot feature are missing, too.

It’s official, I absolutely hate this new ColorOS update by @oneplus. It’s half-assed, animations looking shitty, some apps with different DPI scaling, and reeks of chinese skin type of Android. I hate it and I can’t wait to ditch this for the Pixel 6.

Its one of the worst stable updates oneplus has ever rolled, so many bugs, the biggest among them is if you dont have the phone app on the home screen before the update, you physically cannot find the app anywhere in the phone (Not even in the app manager) You have to always open it from the Play store. The Icon field in personalization crashes, you cannot open google feed most of the time, all the permissions are reset, and the recents menu is among the worst you can see in a phone. I’m not happy at all. Recent task manager cant close all apps, as the last app still remains on the screen after pressing close all button in task manager. Whatsapp parallel isnt able to log on web. No call recording app. Miss the old phone and contacts app. —mkhan8426

Considering, OxygenOS 12 has had several rounds of beta tests leading up to the stable update, it’s disappointing to see the state of the final release. If you own a OnePlus 9 or OnePlus 9 Pro, you should probably stay on Android 11 for now and wait for OnePlus to iron out these issues.

WhatsApp may log you out of linked devices as part of a security fix

WhatsApp recently introduced multi-device support to a large chunk of its users. Multi-device support is a feature that a lot of WhatsApp users had been asking for and it’s finally available widely. However, you still can’t use it on two different smartphones. If you’ve been using this feature and have linked multiple devices to your WhatsApp account, a new WhatsApp update may automatically log you out of your linked devices.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently rolling out an update that includes a security fix to sync your linked devices correctly. As a part of this update, you may be logged out of your linked devices. The update fixes some issues where the conversations across linked devices weren’t properly synced at times. There were instances where a certain conversation was not updated on either of the linked devices, so if you started a conversation on your phone and wanted to continue it on your desktop, you wouldn’t be able to see the complete version of it due to syncing issues.

As mentioned earlier, you may be logged out of linked devices after installing the update. But you can easily log back into the device by scanning the QR code, just like you did before. The fix has currently been implemented on a beta version of WhatsApp for Android but WABetaInfo believes that it is being tested on the iOS version of the app as well.

To know if you’ve been logged out, all you have to do is open WhatsApp on your smartphone and go to the linked devices tab. If you see your linked devices being displayed normally, it means you haven’t been logged out and you probably still haven’t received the update. If you see a message at the top of your screen that says “Your devices were logged out due to an unexpected issue,” you will have to relink your devices.

Leaked Realme 9i renders showcase its updated design

We already know that Realme is gearing up to launch a premium flagship with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. But the Realme GT 2 Pro is not the only device that the company is working on at the moment. It’s also prepping a successor to the Realme 8i, leaked renders of which have now surfaced online. These renders give us our first look at the upcoming Realme 9i and shed light on some of its hardware specifications.

The new leaked Realme 9i renders from OnLeaks (via 91mobiles) reveal that the device will feature a new design with a rectangular camera island on the back, a new striped back panel design, a hole-punch display over on the front, and an indented power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner on the right edge. The renders also confirm that the device will pack a triple camera setup on the back, a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type-C port on the bottom edge, and the volume rocker on the left edge.

Since the Realme 9i will be an affordable phone like its predecessor, we expect it to pack an LCD display. 91mobiles speculates that the device will feature an FHD+ IPS panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, which is a step down from the 120Hz LCD panel on the Realme 8i. The publication further adds that the device might pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 4G chipset, a 50MP primary camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. The phone will likely run Realme UI based on Android 11 out of the box.

At the moment, we don’t have any official information about the Realme 9i. Realme is yet to share any details about its launch, but we expect to learn more in the coming weeks. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we learn more about the upcoming device.

Google TV adds over 300 free live TV channels with Pluto TV integration

In September we learned that Google was in talks with several ad-supported streaming channels providers to bring free live TV channels to its platform. Today the search giant announced that it has struck deal with Pluto TV, adding yet another live TV option to Google TV’s “Live” tab.

In a new blog post (via Protocol), Google revealed that it’s joining forces with ViacomCBS-owned Pluto TV to bring over 300 free live TV channels to the Chromecast with Google TV stick and smart TVs running Google TV. Once the integration is live, Google TV users will be able to access free channels from the “Live” tab. In addition, users will also see live TV recommendations in the “For You” tab.

“Starting today, we’re partnering with Pluto TV so you can access more than 300 free live TV channels on Google TV. Visit the Live tab to see what’s on now or check out the Free Live TV recommendations in the For You tab. This new integration with Pluto TV will be available on all Google TV devices in the coming weeks,” Google wrote in a blog post.

The Pluto TV integration will be rolling out to all Google TV devices in the US “in the coming weeks.”

Google TV’s Live tab originally only worked with YouTube TV but Google later added support for Sling TV and Philo, giving users more ways to access live TV channels. Pluto TV is the first free service to be added to the Live tab as Sling TV, Philo, and YouTube TV all require paid subscriptions.

Google TV isn’t the first TV platform to provide free streaming channels, mind you. Samsung, Roku, Amazon, and LG have long offered such free channels on their platforms.

In addition to the Pluto TV integration, Google is also offering six months of Peacock Premium for free to all Google TV users in the US. To claim the offer, subscribe to Peacock Premium through the promotional banner on the “For You” tab.
