Apple’s App Tracking Transparency policy is unsurprisingly hurting platforms that track you

Apple announced last year a new privacy-focused setting for iOS users called App Tracking Transparency (ATT). This policy — which went into effect in April — forces app developers to ask for users’ permissions when they want to track them for advertising purposes. So now all active apps have to request approval before being able to track people across other apps and websites. Otherwise, they will get kicked out of the App Store. A report reveals that this policy has cost social media platforms around $10 billion in revenue, unsurprisingly.

According to The Verge, an investigation by The Financial Times has revealed to what extent the new ATT policy has been hurting social media platforms. Services like Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube heavily depend on advertising to remain free-to-use. Considering many users opt out of being tracked, ads are becoming less relevant and aren’t reaching the precise audience. This change has cost said platforms around $9.85 billion in revenue — so far.

Facebook criticized Apple’s move last December by posting full-page newspaper ads. According to FT’s report, they also have lost the most money “in absolute terms”. It will take at least one year to rebuild a new advertising system that doesn’t depend on tracking users across other apps and websites. Companies will have to either focus on targeting Android users or find more creative ways to target iPhone users without tracking them through the usual methods.

It’s worth noting that when users toggle tracking off in Privacy settings, apps can’t even request the permission to track them or provide an explanation as to why they need to follow them around. Apple also bans apps from compensating users who agree to get tracked. So apps can’t trick or tempt users into agreeing in return for digital goods. The tech giant has been focusing on user privacy and security features lately. Just last week, the company released its App Privacy Report feature in the first beta of iOS 15.2. This exposes the privacy-related practices of all apps installed on an iPhone.

Do you allow apps to track you to get more relevant ads? Let us know in the comments section below.

Here’s how to get a free Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 from T-Mobile

T-Mobile is once again offering its coveted premium plan users a great deal, and this time it’s an entirely free Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 or $1000 off a Galaxy Z Fold 3. You just need to add a line to get it. According to our sources, T-Mobile has now begun a new promotion for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 as of October 29th. The plan that you have determines how good of a deal it is. The offer is limited to a maximum of 4 redemptions per account.

Customers on any Magenta Max or ONE Plus (or some business unlimited plans/Sprint premium plans) can simply add a line to their account along with a new Galaxy Z Fold3 or Galaxy Z Flip3 on EIP. The customer will then receive an SMS message confirming eligibility. This will start the monthly bill credits over the length of the installment plan. The total credit amount will be $1000 which works out to about $41.66 per month on a typical 24-month EIP.

Non-premium plans, like standard Magenta, get half value. Those customers will receive $500 off over the course of the EIP, or about $20.83 per month.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is Samsung's latest and greatest foldable phone. It brings several improvements over the previous model, including high refresh rate displays, an under-screen camera, and top-of-the-line hardware. T-Mobile is now offering up to $1000 on this foldable if you add a line.
    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is Samsung's latest clamshell foldable that offers a bigger outer display, high refresh rate inner display, and top-of-the-line hardware. You can almost get it for free practically if you add a line.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 back in August. They both feature innovative new folding screen technology, with the Fold 3 specifically receiving high marks for durability this time around.

This isn’t the first time T-Mobile has offered its best promotions to just its premium plan holders. Most recently, T-Mobile offered a free Google Pixel 6 with trade-in for premium customers. Those trade-in values were much higher than typical values, some even higher than their initial cost. It seems T-Mobile is eager to get more and more customers over to the MAX plan as a means of sustained revenue.

The offer has started as of October 29th, so if you’re interested in taking advantage you can do so now. The device and line can be added online on T-Mobile’s website, in-store, or via any of T-Mobile’s various support channels.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy S21 FE are reportedly launching in early 2022

Samsung’s next flagship series is launching in early February next year, with the long-delayed Galaxy S21 FE arriving a month before it, according to a new report.

According to SamMobiles, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S22 series in February 2022. SamMobiles says, based on information they received, they’re confident that the Galaxy S22 will be unveiled in early February instead of the late January date that leakers like IceUniverse have previously suggested.

In a separate report, SamMobile also claims that the launch of the Galaxy S22 series will be preceded by the Galaxy S21 FE, which will launch sometime in January 2022. The publication says the launch will take place at CES 2022, which is scheduled for January 5-8. This is in line with previous reports from Ross Young, Jon Prosser, and Max Weinbach, who have suggested a January launch for the Galaxy S21 FE.

The Galaxy S22 lineup will reportedly consist of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, following the same pattern as the last year. Rumors have it all devices in the Galaxy S22 series will be powered by the Exynos 2200, which is tipped to be the first Exynos chip with an AMD GPU.

As seen in leaked renders last month, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ will stick to the last year’s design, featuring the familiar camera bump and the centered hole-punch display on the front. The regular Galaxy S22 will reportedly feature a 6.06-inch AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S22+ will sport a larger display. Both phones are also tipped to feature a 50MP GN5 camera.

Finally, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is believed to be a spiritual successor to the Galaxy Note series and feature a design similar to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. It will reportedly pack a 5,000mAh battery and similar zoom camera as last year. Rumors are also hinting that the phone could have an integrated S Pen.

Download: MIUI 12.5 Closed Beta for Xiaomi and Redmi devices [Update: Oct 29 builds]

The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom Android skin – MIUI 12.5 – is finally here. The first incremental update over MIUI 12 has been unveiled at the Mi 11 launch event in China. Compared to MIUI 12, the stable version of which was released less than six months ago, MIUI 12.5 brings in a slew of improvements, visual overhauls, and a handful of new features. We have already extracted the new live wallpapers, and now we are presenting the downloading links of the first set of MIUI 12.5 beta firmware packages for a bunch of Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices.

It is worth mentioning that these closed beta builds are meant for the Chinese variants, as Xiaomi suspended the rollout of MIUI global beta last year. As a consequence, you have to flash these recovery ROMs using TWRP to bypass the MIUI beta account whitelisting. Do not expect Google Play Services or any pre-installed Google apps in them. Language options are likely limited to English and Chinese only, too.

The Best Xiaomi Phones to Buy

The beta MIUI 12.5 builds listed below are based on either Android 10 or Android 11, depending on the device. If you are looking for MIUI 12 stable releases, you can find those here.

You can download the latest beta of MIUI 12.5 for your device from the links below. You can also visit our linked forums in case you need further assistance. While all of these download links are directly from Xiaomi, users are advised to proceed at their own risk. We warn you once again, this is not intended for the average consumer and is recommended only for users comfortable with flashing ROMs.

Apple could be working on a beefier iMac “Pro” for next year

For the past year, Apple has been working on migrating its Mac lineup from Intel to its own M1 chip. The first Macs to get a taste of M1 were the MacBook Air 13″, MacBook Pro 13″, and Mac Mini last November. The iMac 24″ got a colorful redesign the following Spring. And finally, the MacBook Pro 2021 models were released last month, powered by the M1 Pro and Max chips and available in 14 and 16-inch configurations. Apple is now seemingly working on a new M1 Pro/Max-equipped iMac “Pro” to replace the 27″ Intel iMac.

According to MacRumors, leaker Dylandkt has shared that Apple is planning to release a redesigned 27″ iMac “Pro” during the first half of 2022. The upgraded M1 Pro/Max chips will allegedly power the new iMac “Pro”. Thus it will have the “Pro” label to distinguish it from the 24″ M1 iMac. This comes as no surprise, considering Apple wants to completely get rid of Intel Macs. The 27″ iMac replacement will only bring the tech giant a step closer to reaching that aim.

The base model of the upcoming iMac is expected to include 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD, and it will likely cost over $2,000 in the US. Its 27″ Mini LED display is said to support ProMotion technology and have dark bezels. Dylan also mentions that it will feature a wider port variety, similar to that on the new MacBook Pro. This includes HDMI and USB C ports, in addition to an SD card reader.

The leaker states in his tweet that Face ID was tested on the upcoming iMac “Pro”. However, it’s still unclear if the feature will make it to the final commercial product or not. Apple has never included the TrueDepth camera system on a Mac. Despite having a notch, the new MacBook Pro models have a regular webcam with no Face ID support. We will have to wait and see what the people in Cupertino have in store for us.

What are you most excited about in the upcoming iMac “Pro”? Let us know in the comments section below.
