After launching the Nokia 5.4 and Nokia 3.4 in Europe last year, HMD Global is now bringing both phones to the Indian market. Alongside the smartphones, the company has also launched the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite truly wireless earphones.

The Nokia 5.4 has a 6.39-inch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1560 x 720, up to 400 nits brightness, and 70% of NTSC color gamut coverage. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, backed by up to 6GB RAM and 64GB flash storage, and Adreno 610 GPU. On the back, it has a quad-camera setup, consisting of a 48MP primary, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro sensors. Meanwhile, there’s a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies. The Nokia 5.4 packs a 4,000mAh battery that charges via a 10W charger. It runs Android 10 out-of-the-box, retains the 3.5mm audio jack, and has a dedicated Google Assistant button along with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. HMD Global is also assuring 2 guaranteed Android version upgrades and 3 years of security updates for the device.

Nokia Power Earbuds Lite

The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite is a watered-down version of the Nokia Power Earbuds that launched in Europe last year. HMD Global claims the earphones last up to 35 hours on a single charge. They also feature an IPX7 rating, making them water-proof under 1 m water for up to 30 minutes.

The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite is priced at ₹3,599 (~$49) and comes in Snow and Charcoal colors. Those who pre-book the Nokia 3.4 along with the earphones can avail of a flat discount of ₹1600. The earphones will be available for purchase from Nokia.com and Amazon India from Feb 17 onwards.

Redmi K40 and K40 Pro receive TENAA certification ahead of official launch

Since last month, we know that Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the new Redmi K40 series in China. The company itself confirmed the launch date. There have been multiple reports and leak surrounding the K40 series, with reports suggesting there will at least be two devices: the Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro. Now ahead of the official launch, three Xiaomi smartphones, including the Redmi K40, K40 Pro, and an unreleased Mi device, have been spotted on TENAA, giving us our best look yet at these upcoming smartphones.

Starting with the device with the model number M2012K11AC, this is likely to be the Redmi K40 and hence will succeed the last year’s Redmi K30 4G. Although the TENAA listing didn’t reveal any specifications, leaks so far hint at the device packing a triple camera setup with a 48MP primary camera, the new Snapdragon 870 chipset, a 4,520 mAh battery, and an AMOLED display.

Meanwhile, the device with model number M2012K11C is expected to be the Redmi K40 Pro, and it will be a direct successor to the Redmi K30 5G. Xiaomi has already confirmed that the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 888. In terms of specifications, a recent Weibo leak (via GSMArena) suggests that the K40 Pro might feature a 6.81-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 12GB of RAM, triple cameras, and a bigger 5,000 mAh battery.

There are conflicting reports about the camera hardware of both the devices. According to known Xiaomi tipster and XDA Senior Member Deic, the Redmi K40 and K40 Pro will feature a 48MP and a 64MP sensor, respectively. However, the most recent Weibo leak claims both phones will have a 108MP primary sensor.

Finally, the third phone spotted on TENAA has a model number M2102J2SC. According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, this Mi smartphone will be a new variant of the Mi 10 5G, with the only change being the switch to the new Snapdragon 870 SoC from the old Snapdragon 865 chipset.

Chrome OS may soon support mirroring your phone’s screen

Google has been working on a new Phone Hub feature for Chrome OS over the last few months. The feature was first spotted back in September last year as a new feature flag on the Chromium Gerrit. The flag had revealed that the Phone Hub would provide deeper integration between Chrome OS and Android devices, allowing users to access notifications and controls their phones right from their Chromebooks. Earlier this month, the feature went live for some users running Chrome OS 90 on the Canary channel, and we learned more about its capabilities.

So far, we’ve learned that the Phone Hub feature will let users enable their phone’s hotspot, enable DND mode, locate their misplaced phone, sync Chrome tabs, sync notifications, and reply to them right from their Chromebook. Now, a recent report from 9to5Google suggests that it may also let you mirror your phone’s screen. The report points at a new flag — #eche-swa — that is currently in development. It claims that this flag enables a System Web App (SWA) version of “Eche,” which presumably means “throw” or “cast” when translated from Spanish to English. This suggests that the SWA will let users cast their phone’s screen on Chrome OS devices.

The report further talks about a snippet that highlights what the #eche-swa flag is supposed to do. It states: “Implements the core logic of the EcheApp which is a SWA to transmitting video and bidirectional data over WebRTC.” This suggests that Eche “is an app related to a video feed being broadcast over WebRTC — the same tech used by numerous realtime video apps including Google Duo — along with some other “data” to be sent back and forth between two devices.”

The new feature will essentially let users cast their phone’s screen to their Chromebook upon clicking a Phone Hub notification, much like the functionality offered by Microsoft’s Your Phone app for Windows 10. It’s worth noting that the feature will most likely be limited to Google’s Pixel devices at launch, as the Javascript for the Eche app is included in a Google source code folder that appears to be specific to Pixel phones.

It’s worth noting that Phone Hub’s screen mirroring feature is currently in its early stages of development, and we don’t have any information regarding a launch schedule. 9to5Google speculates that if it is a Pixel-exclusive feature, it’s possible that Google may launch it as part of its quarterly Pixel feature Drops. We’ll update this post as soon as we learn more about the feature.
