OnePlus Camera 5.4.10 adds Quick Share to social media, taking burst photos or video with a shutter long-press, and more

Android 11 Beta 1 is here! As has become tradition, in addition to the Google Pixels, several other OEMs like OPPO, Xiaomi, and Realme will also be joining in on the party at a later date. If you have a OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro, you can actually join in right now, as OnePlus has officially released Android 11 Beta 1 for its current flagship devices. We’ve been digging around the latest betas and we have spotted several new features within the OnePlus Camera app, that gives us an indication of what is coming to OnePlus devices in the future!

The Android 11 Beta 1 for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro comes with the OnePlus Camera v5.4.10, and it has a bunch of nifty features:

Quick Share from OnePlus Camera

After taking a photo with the camera app, you can drag the preview to share it quickly on a supported social media app.

OnePlus Camera

Though, one can argue whether it is a good idea to share an image directly from the preview thumbnail without opening it at all. Nonetheless, the option is there, if you do feel confident about the shot.

New Photo Filters

The new camera app update adds a lot of new filters, but there are in various stages of completion. OnePlus has not given all of the new filters proper names yet. We examined the APK to get the user-facing names of some of these filters, but note that not all the filters have proper names just yet.

The filters we spotted are currently named: FaceApp, O1, BeautyPlus, Black & White (New), Clare, Juno, Valencia, Snapseed, Sweetsnap, and Youcam. As mentioned, these may not be the final names as would appear on the camera UI. The OnePlus Camera app already has a Black and White filter, but there is also a new Black and White filter — we presume that it has some enhancements and key differentiation areas, but we do not know conclusively yet.

Burst Photos and Video

As the name implies, the camera app allows you to take burst photos and videos. Long pressing the shutter button will let you take a quick set of photos or record a short video. When you let go of the shutter button, the photos and/or video stops being captured.

New Zoom UI

The camera app brings along a new UI for zooming in and out.

Dragging left zooms out, while dragging right zooms in. The new UX is more thumb-friendly than pinch-to-zoom and the pop-out zoom carousel.

Preparing to add Document Mode to OnePlus Camera

We spotted strings that suggest that OnePlus is working on adding a new document mode. The feature is under development, and it doesn’t appear to be live just yet, though.

You can try out these features on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro on the Android 11 Beta 1. Since these features do not appear to be reliant completely on hardware, they could possibly be coming to other OnePlus devices as well in the future.

WhatsApp tests multi-device access, searching by date, better storage usage tools, ShareChat video service, and much more

Even though WhatsApp has received several new features over the last couple of months, the instant messenger still isn’t as feature-rich as some of the other popular messengers out there. It lacks quite a few useful features, like the ability to use the messenger on multiple devices at the same time. Granted that you can use WhatsApp on your smartphone and desktop simultaneously, but you’re limited to just those two devices with no option to add a third or a fourth device. Earlier this year in March, we learned that WhatsApp was preparing to add multi-device support to the app. The messenger has now started testing the feature, and it might soon be released on the beta channel.

According to a recent tweet from WABetaInfo, the feature will allow users to connect their WhatsApp account to up to 4 devices at the same time. The feature is currently under development and we don’t have any information regarding its release timeline. Along with the multi-device support, WhatsApp is also testing a few other useful additions, like a search by date feature, new tools for Storage Usage, a Clear except starred option, ShareChat support, and a Search image on the web feature.

WhatsApp search by date WhatsApp search by date

For the Search by date feature, WhatsApp will add a new Calendar icon to the in-chat search mode. Tapping on the icon will bring up a calendar where you’ll be able to choose the exact date to filter your messages. The feature is currently in the alpha stage of development and might undergo further changes before it’s released on the beta channel. It’s worth noting that the feature may be rolled out for iOS users before it’s available on WhatsApp for Android.

WhatsApp Storage Usage tools WhatsApp Storage Usage tools

The new Storage Usage tools, however, will make their way to the Android version of the app and will let you manage WhatsApp’s storage use more efficiently. The messenger will completely redesign the current Storage Usage section on the app and add a few new filters to find large files and forwarded files easily. Additionally, WhatsApp will also add a new Sort button to help you sort photos shared in a chat. The Sort button will include three options to sort images by — Newest, Oldest, and Size.

The aforementioned Clear except starred option for Storage Usage is being tested in the iOS version of the app and it will do exactly what its name suggests. In the current version of WhatsApp, you already get an option within chats to clear all messages except the ones that you’ve starred. However, if you clear messages or files from the Storage Usage section, the app deletes starred messages as well. With the new feature, you’ll be able to clear messages and files from the Storage Usage section without worrying about losing your starred messages.

For Indian users, WhatsApp is testing ShareChat integration which will add a dedicated media player for videos hosted on ShareChat. For the unaware, ShareChat is a popular Indian social network that boasts of over 60 million monthly active users. The platform hosts short videos in vernacular languages that are often shared on WhatsApp. With ShareChat integration, WhatsApp users will be able to view videos hosted on the platform without being redirected to a browser window. Much like YouTube videos, ShareChat videos will be played in Picture-in-Picture mode on the messenger.

Earlier this year in March, WhatsApp added a new search message on the web option in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 2.20.40.26. Now, the company has started testing a search image on the web feature for iOS users. Much like the previously released feature, the new search image on the web option will replace the forward button on a frequently forwarded image with a Search button. Tapping on the button will upload the image to Google and conduct a reverse image search, allowing users to get more information about the forwarded image. The feature is also in development on the Android version of the app.

All of the aforementioned features are not available to the public on the beta version of WhatsApp. However, we expect the company to roll them out in a future beta release. It’s also worth noting that since the features are currently in development, WhatsApp may make some significant changes before they’re released on the beta channel.

Realme X50 Pro will get an Android 11 beta next month

The first Android 11 Beta was released yesterday and it’s an important milestone for a few reasons. First, it marks the final stretch of development before the stable release. Second, it means more devices will get a chance to try the latest version of Android. Google Pixel devices are, of course, supported, but we’ve also seen the OnePlus 8 series join the party. The Realme X50 Pro will also be getting a taste next month.

Just like OPPO announced with the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro and Xiaomi announced with the Mi 10 and POCO F2 Pro, Realme has shared its plans to bring the Android 11 Beta with Realme UI to its flagship Realme X50 Pro (our review) next month. The Realme X50 Pro is the company’s flagship phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and 65W SuperDart charging, and it launched with Android 10-based Realme UI.

Realme X50 Pro 5G Forums

Realme didn’t give us much more information about the beta other than the fact that it’s coming in mid-July, but this announcement is good news for Realme X50 Pro owners. In our review, we said the Realme X50 Pro is one of the better “bang for your buck” options out there when it comes to Snapdragon 865-equipped smartphones. It’s certainly not cheap, and that makes getting Android 11 beta even sweeter.

Be sure to read our full in-depth coverage of the first beta release to learn about some of the features that may be headed your way.
