[Update 2: Launching on June 16] HTC’s upcoming Desire 20 Pro leaks with a hole-punch display and quad rear cameras

Update 2 (06/09/2020 @ 04:10 AM ET): The HTC Desire 20 Pro is launching on June 16, 2020.

Update 1 (06/04/2020 @ 03:40 AM ET): Specifications of the upcoming HTC Desire 20 Pro have surfaced on Google Play Console’s Device Catalog. Scroll to the bottom for more information. The article has published on April 30, 2020, is preserved as below.

Oh, HTC. The company that was once at the forefront of Android innovation, as well as the company that kickstarted Android phones in general (by launching the very first commercial Android phone 12 years ago), is now, for the most part, forgotten. After enduring a tough time, the company has exited the smartphone marketplace for the most part: we haven’t seen an HTC flagship since the HTC U12+, and right now, the company has focused on launching the occasional mid-range phone (often licensing their name to another company) or launching devices for a very niche market (remember that cryptocurrency phone?). Surprisingly, HTC now has another release in the pipeline: the upcoming HTC Desire 20 Pro.

Our first close look of the device comes from Evan Blass’ Patreon page, where he shared a rough render of the device. Meanwhile, XDA Recognized Contributor LlabTooFeR also shared the purported name of this phone as well as a rough depiction of it, which matches what Blass shared.

https://twitter.com/LlabTooFeR/status/1253965107018825728

The HTC Desire lineup has always been about midrange phones and lower-end ones, and judging by the looks of it, the HTC Desire 20 Pro will be no different. It does integrate some newer smartphone design features: the phone will sport a hole-punch display, with the front-facing camera cornered to the left side of the display. The back also features a corner-aligned camera setup with what looks like a quad rear camera setup. We do have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, though, which has also lately become a characterizing feature in lower-end devices: most higher-end ones now go with in-display ones.

We have no clue on what this device will pack spec-wise, but since it’s a Desire smartphone and the phone looks fairly mid-range, we’re not really expecting anything amazing or mind-blowing here. There is an alleged GeekBench listing for the device, and it shows not-so-impressive performance, but it does indicate that it runs on an octa-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. It is possible that HTC might surprise us, though, but it’s highly unlikely. We also don’t know when HTC is planning to release this device or if it’s going to release it at all.

Update: Specifications of the HTC Desire 20 Pro

The HTC Desire 20 Pro has just been added to Google Play Console’s Device Catalog. With the codename “htc_bymdugl” and model name “HTC 2Q9J10000”, the HTC Desire 20 Pro will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and a display with a 2340×1080 resolution. The phone will run Android 10, unsurprisingly.

While the listing states specifications which we believe to be correct, it still includes an old render of the HTC u11+, so we do not have any new graphics to share at this stage.

Update 2: HTC Desire 20 Pro launching on June 16, 2020

HTC will be launching the Desire 20 Pro on June 16, 2020.

The silhouette of the phone matches that of the Desire 20 Pro. Curiously, HTC has also placed the Vivo logo in the top right corner of the banner image.

OnePlus TV 32″ and 43″ models certified by Bluetooth SIG, will start under ₹20,000 (~$265) in India

OnePlus’ market strategy has evolved significantly over the last few years. Starting off as a flagship killer brands, the OnePlus we know today targets the premium segment of smartphones. But alongside premium smartphones, OnePlus also dived into the category of premium smart TVs with two 4K QLED TVs launched in India last year at a starting price of ₹70,000 (~$990 at the time). The TVs, however, met a lot of criticism for their exorbitant pricing (the more premium model of the OnePlus TV was priced above $1400) for a newcomer in the segment, forcing the company to re-evaluate its pricing strategy for TVs – not just smartphones.

OnePlus TV XDA Review: Bells and Whistles With Practical Awesomeness

OnePlus is now maneuvering back to the grassroots with affordable smartphones and LED TVs to tap into the mass market which is currently dominated by brands like Xiaomi, Vu, TCL in India. As per recent reports, there will be more than one TV and the most affordable one will be priced at around $200 (~₹15,000). OnePlus has also confirmed that these TVs will be launching in India on July 2nd.

Now, a day after the confirmation from company, two OnePlus LED TVs have been certified by the Bluetooth SIG. The listings include a 32-inch model and a 43-inch model with model numbers 32HA0A00 and 43FA0A00, respectively. The letters “H” and “F” in the model numbers might indicate that the 32″ model sports an HD panel (1366 x 768p resolution) while the 43″ variant ships with a Full HD (1920 x 1080p) panel. We could also expect OnePlus to borrow some wisdom from sister company Realme, which recently introduced the Realme TV lineup with 32″ and 43″ models.

Other than the OnePlus TV variants, two remote controllers from OnePlus have also been certified by the Bluetooth SIG. These remotes have model numbers RC-002B and RC-002C, suggesting some differences between the two remotes. All of these products support Bluetooth 5.0.

Furthermore, corroborating earlier reports, OnePlus India also teased the tentative pricing for the upcoming OnePlus TVs. While the graphic means the price could be anything between ₹10,999 (~$145) and ₹19,999 (~$265), the sub-₹20,000 pricing is guaranteed for at least one model. Just like the premium models, the affordable smart TVs from the company will also be sold via Amazon India.

We hope to learn more about the soon-to-be-launched TV range over the following days as more certifications, teasers, and leaks surface online. Meanwhile, what are your thoughts about an affordable smart TV from the company? Let us know in the comments below.

Vivaldi for Android gets updated with dark mode for web content

After several months of beta testing, the first stable version of the Vivaldi browser rolled out on the Google Play Store earlier this year in April. Much like several other privacy-focused browsers on Android, Vivaldi offered users features like a built-in ad blocker and cross-platform sync with end-to-end encryption, along with an inbuilt notes taker and a snapshot tool for productivity. While a few other browsers on the Play Store offer such features, what helped Vivaldi stand out was its integrated tracking blocker mechanism powered by the DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar tool. Now, the developers behind the browser are rolling out an update on the Play Store which brings even more new features.

Vivaldi browser dark mode for web pages

As per a recent blog post from the company, the latest update for Vivaldi on Android brings a dark mode for web content which adds to the light/dark themes already available for the user interface. As you can see in the attached image, once the dark mode is turned on it will automatically convert any web page to a dark theme. To enable the dark mode, users will have to head over to the Themes section in the browser’s Settings page and tap on the toggle next to the new Dark Mode for Web Pages option. Along with the new dark mode for web content setting, the update also brings minor improvements to the user interface, bug fixes, and performance improvements. You can download the latest update for the Vivaldi browser by following the Play Store link below.

Motorola One Fusion+ is a mid-range Android smartphone with a 16MP pop-up camera

There is a lot to love about Motorola smartphones. Their software builds are pretty clean if not outright stock Android (on Android One models), pack decent hardware for the price, and sometimes even push the envelope—just look at the Motorola Edge devices with their curved “waterfall” displays. What really carries Motorola, though, is the brand’s selection of budget and mid-range smartphones. Now, the Lenovo-owned brand is launching yet another mid-range smartphone: the Motorola One Fusion+. Although Motorola published a product page for this device, they have not made a formal announcement as the device is not actually available for purchase yet.

Perhaps the most interesting bit about the Motorola One Fusion+ is the display. It is a 6.5″ IPS TFT LCD panel at 2340×1080 resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 60Hz refresh rate. There’s no display notch or hole-punch cutout, though, as the 16MP front camera is housed in a pop-up component. Pop-up cameras are not a new technology and are also not even new for Motorola—the company previously launched the Motorola One Hyper with a pop-up camera at the end of last year—but they’ve recently fallen out of favor among smartphone manufacturers. Thus, it’s nice to see its use in this device as it allows users to have a truly “full-screen” experience.

Specification-wise, the Motorola One Fusion+ seems like a decent mid-range smartphone. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card slot), and runs Android 10 out-of-the-box (given Motorola’s update track record, don’t expect a lot of software updates, though). The One Fusion+ also has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as a quad rear camera setup with a 64MP sensor leading the pack alongside an 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor, 5MP macro sensor, and 2MP depth sensor. Other noteworthy specifications include a 5,000mAh battery (with support for 15W charging) which should be able to provide plenty of juice throughout your day and even more, a single loudspeaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated Google Assistant button, and 2 microphones.

The Motorola One Fusion+ has dimensions of 162.9 x 76.9 x 9.6mm and weighs 210g. Its body is plastic and comes in “Moonlight White” and “Twilight Blue” colors. It is not available for purchase at the moment, but it should become available very soon. GSMArena reports that the phone will be available in Europe later this month for €300. You can check out the listing at Motorola’s website right here to know more.
