Honor View20, Honor 20, and Honor 9X will get Magic UI 3.0 based on Android 10 globally next week

In October last year, Honor opened Magic UI‌ 3.0 beta for the Honor View 20 and Honor 20. A month later, the company began rolling out stable Android 10 updates to both devices in multiple regions before the rollout was paused for undisclosed reasons. Now it appears the company has resolved whatever issue it had been facing and is resuming the Magic UI 3.0 rollout globally for four Honor devices.

Through a press release, Honor has announced it will be rolling out Magic UI‌ 3.0 (EMUI 10) with Android 10 to the Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, Honor View 20 and Honor 9X starting 15th March 2020, globally. The update will bring all the highlight features of EMUI‌ 10 and Android 10 to the devices, including the system-wide dark mode, new navigation gestures, smoother animations, GPU‌ Turbo for improved gaming performance, security and privacy enhancements and much more. The Magic UI‌ 3.0 also updates the camera UI with a more modernized look and accessible video recording features such as the assistive grid, horizontal level, and timer.

For those wondering whether this update will have any impact on Google Mobile Services (GMS), it should be noted that these phones are already Google certified and users will continue to have access to all Google apps as well as GMS-dependent apps after installing the update.

Apart from the above-mentioned devices, Honor told us they are also planning to bring the Magic UI 3.0 update to the Honor 10 Lite, Honor 20 Lite, Honor 8X, Honor 9X Pro, Honor V10 and Honor 10. The company says the update is currently under testing — however, it did not reveal any details regarding the exact rollout date for these devices.

Galaxy M11 and Galaxy M21 leaked renders reveal the designs of Samsung’s upcoming budget phones

Last year, Samsung introduced the affordable Galaxy M series to tackle competition from brands like Xiaomi. The venture started with the launch of Samsung Galaxy M10 and the Galaxy M20, which were meant to supersede the Galaxy J series. Over the last year’s course, Samsung bolstered the Galaxy M series with more powerful devices including the Galaxy M30 and the Galaxy M40, following mid-cycle upgrades to the phones in the series with models such as the Galaxy M10s and M30s. In the following year, Samsung is launching newer devices with more features. After launching the Galaxy M31 (our first impressions) last month, Samsung could soon launch the Galaxy M11 and the Galaxy M21.

Samsung Galaxy M21: 48MP camera, 6,000mAh battery, AMOLED display

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy M21 first, “Notify Me” for the smartphone has already gone live on Amazon India. The microsite also confirms some of the key specs of the smartphone including its cameras, battery capacity, and screen technology. The Galaxy M21 is slated to come with a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary camera. In comparison, the Galaxy M20 featured a 13MP+5MP dual rear camera setup. The resolution of the selfie camera has also been bumped up from 8MP to 20MP.

The battery capacity has also been increased from 5,000mAh on the Galaxy M20 to 6,000mAh on the Galaxy M21. Further, while the Galaxy M20 featured a Full HD+ LCD display, its successor will feature a sAMOLED (Super AMOLED) display, although the resolution of the display could be either HD+ or Full HD+.

Additionally, 91Mobiles claims that the Samsung Galaxy M21 could launch with the same specifications as the Galaxy M30s. This means that the phone could be powered by an Exynos 9611 – a visible upgrade over the Exynos 7904 on the Galaxy M20 – with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB. Lastly, the phone is also likely to launch with One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box as Galaxy M20 has already received the update.

Samsung Galaxy M11: Snapdragon 450, hole-punch HD+ display, 3GB RAM

While there’s no official word on the Samsung Galaxy M11, the phone has been spotted on the Google Play Console Device Catalog. Based on the listing in the database, the Galaxy M11 will be powered by a Snapdragon 450 chipset compared to the Exynos 7884B on the Galaxy M10s. At least one of the variants will feature 3GB RAM. Further, the resolution of the display is 1560 x 720 pixels and while the display technology is unknown, we can expect the use of a sAMOLED display as on the predecessor.

As per the render, the phone will also feature a single hole-punch for the selfie camera in the top left corner of the device. While the specifications of the rear camera aren’t confirmed, we can expect at least a dual-camera setup on the back just like the Galaxy M10s. Further, while the fingerprint scanner isn’t visible, we can expect the phone to feature one since “com.sec.feature.fingerprint_manager_service” is listed among the phone’s features. Notably, while the Galaxy M10 lacked support for fingerprint unlocking, the Galaxy M10s featured a rear-mounted capacitive sensor.

Samsung Galaxy M21 Launch date

The Amazon page confirms that Samsung Galaxy M21 will launch in India on March 16th. Meanwhile, the launch date for the Galaxy M11 isn’t confirmed yet but might see it on the same day.

OxygenOS 9.0.11 for the OnePlus 5/5T brings February 2020 security patches

The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T were launched in June 2017 and November 2017 respectively. OnePlus followed up with plenty of more devices since then, and their device portfolio has been growing ever since. Back in June 2018, OnePlus had announced its software maintenance schedule, promising two years of Android version upgrades and another year of security updates. This means that Android updates for the OnePlus 5/5T should have ceased in November 2019, and security updates should cease after November 2020. On the plus side, OnePlus did mention that the OnePlus 5/5T will receive its OxygenOS Android 10 update in Q2 2020.

Meanwhile, the company is going along with security updates for the device. The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T have received OxygenOS 9.0.11 builds which include February 2020 security patches.

The update changelog is not too verbose on the changes incorporated within this update, opting for a generic “system stability and bug fixes” instead. This OxygenOS 9.0.11 follows along similar releases in the form of OxygenOS 9.0.10 and 9.0.09.

As always, this will be a staged rollout. A few users will be receiving the update at random, and if no critical issues are found, the update will be rolled out to more users over the days. However, if you cannot wait, you can also sideload the update as we have provided download links for the same.

Hotstar brings Disney+ content to India as “Disney+ Hotstar”

Disney is the world’s largest media production house. About a year ago, it announced its entry into the online streaming business with a new cross-platform service to compete with content providers like Hulu and Netflix. Called Disney+, the service went live in November last year, offering exclusive content from Pixar, Marvel Studios, Star Wars as well as The Simpsons franchises under the same roof. While Disney+ is has been restricted to a handful of countries since its launch, Indians can enjoy its exclusive content with homegrown streaming app, Hotstar. The app has now been rebranded as “Disney+ Hotstar” and the content is available to all Premium members without any extra cost.

The online streaming Hotstar is owned by one of India’s largest TV networks – Star India, which was previously owned by 21st Century Fox. When Disney acquired Fox in 2018, all TV channels under the Star TV network as well as Hotstar became to be owned by the former. With the announcement of the new streaming service, it was also confirmed that Hotstar will host the content in India.

Hotstar’s Android app has recently been updated with a new user interface, logo, and splash screen. The update UI also exudes a Disney+ Hotstar branding along with a color scheme in line with Disney+. While Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame have been available on Hotstar since its release on Disney+, new titles are now being added to the app. Gadgets 360 compiled a list of titles now available on the platform and these include:

While Hotstar operates with a freemium model and has three tiers of subscription. Besides the free tier, there’s Hotstar VIP, which mostly has Indian content but without any ads, and Hotstar Premium, which has paid Indian content along with international hits like Game of Thrones. Disney+ content will only be available for Hotstar Premium users and the membership for the same costs ₹199 ($2.70) a month or ₹999 ($13.50) a year.

We can also expect localization of content through audio dubbing in Indian languages as more Disney+ content is made available on the platform. While the majority of Disney’s content is now destined to be available via Hotstar, some short-form content also continues to be available on JioCinema.
