Unofficial LineageOS 17 brings Android 10 to the Moto G 2013 and Moto G 2014

With the launch of the Moto G series back in 2013, Motorola revolutionized the budget smartphone marketplace. While the original Moto G might not seem like much today, back then it was one of the go-to choices for anyone looking for a well-built budget smartphone offering a near-stock Android experience. Even though the Moto G 2013 and its successor, the Moto G 2014, haven’t aged well over the last few years the devices still have a solid fan following and our forums are filled with constant discussions and third-party development updates for both the devices. In case you have either of the two devices lying around and want to breathe new life into them, then you’d be glad to know that developers have managed to port an unofficial build of LineageOS 17 for the devices.

For the unaware, LineageOS is one of the most popular, community-built third-party ROM for Andriod devices and its latest version — LineageOS 17 — is based on Android 10. We’ve previously seen unofficial LineageOS 17 builds for several older devices like the LG G2, Realme 3 Pro, Lenovo ZUK Z1, and more. But the Moto G 2013 and Moto G 2014 are among the oldest devices to be upgraded to Android 10 with an unofficial LineageOS port. Samsung Galaxy A51 is now official with a hole punch display and quad rear cameras

Just a couple of months after Samsung announced the Galaxy A50s, the company has launched the Galaxy A51 in Vietnam. We’ve already seen plenty of leaked renders of the device showcasing the punch-hole display and 48MP quad rear camera setup. And now we have more information about the device’s internal specifications. The all-new Galaxy A51 is powered by an octa-core processor coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The Galaxy A51 features a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a repositioned hole-punch cutout. Unlike the off-center hole-punch on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S10 series, the one on the Galaxy A51 has been moved to the center. Embedded in the display is a fingerprint sensor, much like the one found on the Galaxy A50s and the phone even includes support for face unlocking. In terms of optics, the device features a 40MP f/2.0 primary shooter, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP f/2.4 macro lens, and a 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor. On the front, the device has a single 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

The device has been priced at 7,990,000 VND (~$346) and will be available in three color variants — Blue Crush Multicolor, White Crush Sparkling, Black Crush Diamond (translated). The Galaxy A51 will be available for pre-order in Vietnam starting from December 16th and it will go on sale starting from December 27th. As of now, there’s no information from the company regarding its launch in other regions.

Android 10 rolling out to Samsung Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 in India

Back in October, Samsung officially announced the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 beta program for its flagship Galaxy S10 series. Since then, the company has extended the beta program to a number of devices in the Galaxy S and Note lineup, and it has even started rolling out stable Android 10 updates for some of the devices. Interestingly, the One UI 2.0 rollout doesn’t fall in line with the update schedule Samsung shared late last month. As per the schedule, devices in the Galaxy S and Note series, along with the Galaxy M20 and M30, were expected to receive the update early next year in January, while other budget and mid-range devices were scheduled to receive the update much later. It seems like Samsung has just completely disregarded the Android 10 update schedule it shared earlier because the company has now started rolling out Android 10 to the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 in India.

As per a recent report from Sammobile, the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 are the first set of budget devices to receive the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update. The updates, version number M205FDDU3CSL4 and M305FDDU3CSL4, bring all of the new features introduced in Android 10, along with the One UI specific changes and the Android security patches for December 2019.

Currently, the update is only rolling out to users in India but considering Samsung’s ‘surprisingly good’ rollout schedule that may change soon. In case you’re in the region and own either of the two devices, you should receive the OTA update notification in some time. You can also manually check for updates by heading over to the Software Update section in the settings. For those of you who don’t wish to wait for the update, you can download the update package from Sammobile’s database by following the links below and flash it manually.

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance launches music app Resso in India

ByteDance’s TikTok has become a global sensation over the last couple of years, giving users a platform to create short videos with dubbing. Even though the app has faced several hurdles in India, it still has a thriving community of users in the country. Riding on the success of its app, ByteDance has become one of the highest valued startups around the world and it doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. The company has now started testing a new music app called ‘Resso’ in India and Indonesia, which aims to compete with the likes of Spotify and Apple Music in these emerging markets.

As per a recent report from Gadgets 360, the Resso app was initially launched six months ago and has been installed over 27,000 times on iOS and Android. When compared to other music streaming services, Resso differentiates itself by displaying real-time lyrics on the app and even lets users post their comments under individual songs.

The app also brings some of TikTok’s functionality to the board and allows users to create short GIFs and videos with the music playing in the background. These clips, called Vibes, then appear as the album art when you play that specific song. Other users can like Vibes created by you and the most liked Vibe appears as the album art by default.

Much like TikTok, the app is free to use, but it also offers a monthly paid subscription plan for an ad-free experience. The monthly paid subscription is priced at ₹119 (~$1.68) in India and lets users play any song in Resso’s library, download music for offline playback, removes ads, and offers high-quality audio. The app also offers a 14-day free trial for new users.

Resso offers an extensive music library and has already secured rights from Indian labels T-Series and Times Music. However, ByteDance still has no rights deals with Warner Music Group Corp., Universal Music Group, and Sony Music Entertainment, so there’s a chance that you might not find your favorite songs on the app. Resso is currently in a beta testing phase in just two markets, but ByteDance plans to scale up the service to other regions in the near future. For the privacy-conscious, it’s worth noting that Resso’s privacy policy is only available for two countries (India and Indonesia) and the app only allows you to sign-up with either your Google or Facebook account.
