Larry Page and Sergey Brin make Sundar Pichai the new CEO of both Alphabet and Google

Back in 2015, Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin brought about a major change in the company’s structure. They create a new company called Alphabet, with Page taking the role of CEO and Brinn became its President. This new company was a collection of all the companies that existed away from Google’s main internet-based product line and Google itself became one of its subsidiaries. Now, Page and Brinn are stepping down from their roles in Alphabet and have appointed Sundar Pichai as the CEO of both Google and Alphabet.

The announcement was made in a recent letter from the founders in which they wrote, “While it has been a tremendous privilege to be deeply involved in the day-to-day management of the company for so long, we believe it’s time to assume the role of proud parents—offering advice and love, but not daily nagging!”. While Page and Brinn have decided to leave their respective roles in Alphabet, they will continue their involvement in the company as co-founders, shareholders, and members of the Board of Directors.

Sundar Pichai, who was appointed as the CEO of Google back in 2015, is now the CEO of both Google and Alphabet. His duties as the CEO of Google will remain the same as before, but now he will also assume the role of managing Alphabet’s investment in its portfolio of Other Bets. Pichai will also remain a member of Alphabet’s Board of Directors, a role he initially took back in 2017. In an email to Googlers following the announcement, Pichai wrote, “I’m excited about Alphabet and its long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Larry and Sergey in our new roles. Thanks to them, we have a timeless mission, enduring values, and a culture of collaboration and exploration. It’s a strong foundation on which we will continue to build.”

Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 Summary – The Latest SoC and 5G News From Qualcomm

Qualcomm is hosting its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit this week in Hawaii. Last year, 5G was a big focus of the event, and that will continue this year as well. We’re also expecting to see the announcement of the Snapdragon 865. We will be in attendance and reporting on all the big happenings right here on XDA, but you can also follow the event as it happens on your own. There are a number of ways to do that.

[Update 2: Leaked Renders] The Motorola One Hyper may have a pop-up camera and mid-range specs

Update 2 (12/3/19 @ 10:35 AM ET): The Motorola One Hyper has leaked again, this time in high-quality press renders.

Update 1 (10/21/19 @ 12:55 PM ET): It looks like this phone could be the Motorola One Hyper and it may launch with Android 10.

Full-screen smartphones with pop-up displays are all the rage these days. The concept was first introduced with the Vivo Apex last year, and back then, it looked truly futuristic and out of this world. Nowadays, though, it seems normal to us, with devices from different manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, and even Samsung employing moving cameras as an alternative to screen notches, which themselves surfaced as a solution to the problem of ever-expanding smartphone displays. Motorola is also set to release their own take on a smartphone with a pop-up camera very, very soon, and the Spanish Android website ProAndroid has already gotten their hands on it.

It doesn’t seem like an overly impressive mid-range phone overall. As far as specifications go, we have a Snapdragon 675, which is a decently performing mid-range SoC, together with–at least in this particular unit–4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. It features a 64MP rear camera just like other smartphone offerings from Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung, and the pop-up camera unit houses a 32MP front-facing camera. Going into the screen, however, the phone has a 6.4-inch 1080p panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and, of course, no notch to be seen since the phone employs a pop-up module for the camera. Bezels are sort of big, all things considered, and especially considering the bezels of some of its competitors.

Overall, it is pretty much what we’ve been expecting since our exclusive first look. The device is running Android 10 with no customizations on top, just like we’ve learned to expect from Motorola. Android 10 indicates that this device is probably going to launch next year, also given how we don’t have a marketing name for it yet.

According to our Editor in Chief, Mishaal Rahman, the phone pictured in the leaks above is likely the Motorola One Hyper (XT2027-1). As mentioned in the original post above, it is expected to have the Snapdragon 675 SoC and it may launch with Android 10 onboard. We’ll have to wait and see what makes this phone “hyper.”

Update 2: Leaked Renders

We’ve seen some real-life images of the device that we now know is the Motorola One Hyper, but now we’re seeing high-quality renders for the first time. As we’ve seen before, the device has a pop-up camera and an interesting-looking camera module on the back along with a dot pattern. That pop-up front camera is said to be 32MP and the notch-less display is 6.39-inches FHD+. The renders once again show the “64MP Quad Pixel” text on the rear camera and that will be joined by an 8MP depth sensor. As mention in the original article, the One Hyper is powered by the Snapdragon 675 and will ship with Android 10. We’re still not sure what makes this phone “Hyper,” but we should find out soon.
